Providing an opportunity to explore music, theater and visual arts both inside and outside the classroom, Saint Viator offers a full complement of Fine Arts courses that draws students to explore music, theater, and visual arts.
Theater I and Theater II provide a foundation in acting and production, covering improvisation, character development and performance.
Film Study and Production provides students with the critical skills and historical background necessary to analyze film. Students produce short films with classmates to demonstrate the techniques and styles covered in class.
Introduction to Visual Arts exposes students to the elements and principles of design, giving them hands-on experience in drawing, painting, design, sculpture and creating other art forms using a variety of technology.
iPad Media Arts and Introduction to Adobe Photoshop introduce the aesthetics of photography and photo and video editing.
2-D Design and Advanced 2-D Design focuses on the intermediate and advanced study of two dimensional art including drawing, painting, design and digital art.
3-D Design and Advanced 3-D Design focuses on the study of three dimensional art including clay, additive and subtractive sculpture, and 3-D printing.

Band Clubs and Activities
FOLLOW @VIATORBANDS The Saint Viator Band consists of Concert Band, Jazz Band, Musical Pit Orchestra, Pep Band, and Symphonic Band. Members of the bands have the opportunity to travel out of state every other year to give performances and participate in clinics.
The Saint Viator Jazz Band is an auditioned ensemble open to all grade levels. This curricular ensemble meets outside of the regular school day. The Saint Viator Jazz Band performs at school concerts, community events, and jazz festivals. Members must be at a high level of proficiency on their instrument. Auditions are held in the spring of the preceding year and then students then register for this class.
The “Pit” provides accompaniment for the school musical, attends the cast party, and has fun. Auditions are in the fall. Rehearsals are held November through February.
The Pep Band performs at home football and basketball games. The pep band serves as an integral part of the Saint Viator Game Day experience. This ensemble provides a needed energy for our fan base by creating a fun and spirited atmosphere.
The Symphonic Band is the premiere wind ensemble at Saint Viator High School. This auditioned ensemble participates at school concerts, community events, and music festivals. Auditions for this ensemble occur at each semester and then students register for this class.
Chorus Clubs and Activities
FOLLOW @SVHSCHOIRS The Saint Viator Chorus consists of Music Ministry, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Treble Choir. Members of the Chorus have the opportunity to travel out-of-state every other year to give performances and participate in clinics.
One-half credit (0.25 credit per semester) Music Ministry is open to all students — vocalists and instrumentalists, including strings – who wish to participate in the planning and performing of music at Mass. Students learn the fundamentals of how music enhances the texts and rituals of the liturgy from a variety of traditions, including chant, traditional hymns and contemporary. Participation at Mass is required for a passing grade. Music Ministry meets from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesdays. (Occasionally, meeting times/days must be changed/cancelled due to conflicts.) Students enrolled in this course are eligible to audition for Chamber Singers.
One credit Concert Choir addresses the fundamentals of vocal technique, sight-singing, and performance skills through the study and performance of music from various genres and traditions. The Concert Choir performs in concerts at school, local festivals, and community events. Participation in performances is required for a passing grade. Students enrolled in this course are eligible to audition for Chamber Singers. This class meets during the regular school day.
The Chamber Singers is a co-curricular group, with its purpose to extend the learning possibilities offered in the Saint Viator curriculum. Students are selected by audition from students who have already or are currently taking the curricular choral course offered through the Fine Arts department. This auditioned group of singers rehearses outside of the school day and provides enthusiastic students with additional choral experience performing music of various styles. Performance opportunities include concerts and events throughout the school year, including Christmas caroling during the holiday season.
Treble Choir is open to all freshmen and sophomore women. Students will learn fundamentals of vocal technique, sight-singing, and performance skills through the study and performance of music from various genres and traditions. The treble Choir performs in concerts at school, local festivals, and community events. Participation in performances is required for a passing grade. Students enrolled in this course are eligible to audition for Chamber Singers. This class meets during the regular school day.

FOLLOW @STVIATORTHEATRE Throughout the school year, there are several student productions including the Fall Play, Musical, and Winter and Spring Fine Arts Festivals. Opportunities will be announced and posted on the bulletin board outside the auditorium.
The fall play holds open auditions in August. A full-length comedy or drama is performed over one weekend in late October. The show is double-cast and rehearses afternoons, Sunday through Thursday.
The annual musical has been produced since 1968. Auditions are held in early November and are open to any aspiring actors, singers and dancers, regardless of their stage experience. Two complete casts perform over two weekends in early February.

Students have the opportunity to get involved in set construction, stage crew, and lighting and sound crew. Tech Crew works a variety of events throughout the school year. No previous experience required.
