Serving in the United States Army for six years, including a stint as a group leader in Afghanistan, taught Court Harris ’03 more than a little about communicating, especially under pressure. Whether he was working with leaders of NATO allies to plan missions in Afghanistan or calming agitated Afghan village elders who perceived they had been wronged, Harris believes his military experience has made him a strong communicator.
In 2018, Harris called on his skills in communication, logistics, finance, and planning in launching South Gate Strategies (www.southgatestrategies.com
) with a West Point classmate. South Gate is an integrated communications firm that empowers executives and organizations through insightful, results-driven messaging.
Applying his skills to help people communicate and own their story is something he is passionate about. “As military leaders, we needed to ensure there was effective and unambiguous communication, especially under duress,” Harris said, noting a natural segue from his military service into crisis management, public relations, and investor relations, key areas that South Gate Strategies covers for clients. “Executives and brands in the private sector have the same responsibilities, and in today’s digital world, the ability to break through the noise and communicate effectively has a tangible ROI. The rub is that not many organizations do it well. We help solve that.”
The firm also handles media training, marketing and promotion, internal communications, and brand transformation. You can learn more about South Gate Strategies at www.southgatestrategies.com or (847) 494-8762.
