Saint Viator is delighted to once again offer the ACT in-house for junior students on Tuesday, April 5, at 8:00 a.m. We know that ACT seats are still hard to find, so this school day opportunity will allow any junior who wishes to test the opportunity to do so here at Saint Viator. On November 27, students from Saint Viator High School joined peers from around the world to learn about one another's cultures. Each student was able to hear from other students and through their experiences, become a more informed global citizen. They were all able to hear about daily life and learn more about each other as individuals.
The latest group of Illinois State Scholars was announced and Saint Viator High School seniors were well represented.
Each year, Illinois State Scholars represent the top 10 percent of high school seniors from 765 high schools across the state. Earning this distinction means the student has scored in the 95th percentile or above on the ACT or SAT, and ranks in the top half of the class.
There are many aspects to fine arts at Saint Viator High School including traditional performing arts as well as newer digital media arts. The school will celebrate Fine Arts Week beginning November 29. Saint Viator High School Athletic Director Jason Kuffel announced that the school will be promoting Mary Louise Blaney to the position of varsity boys’ tennis Head Coach. Blaney has been involved with the Saint Viator tennis program since 2001 as both the parent of student-athletes and a coach. Over the last three years, she’s served as the head coach of the junior varsity girls tennis team and assistant varsity coach of the boys’ tennis team. At the end of the last school year, Blaney was named the varsity girls’ tennis Head Coach.
Saint Viator High School Athletic Director Jason Kuffel announced the school will be promoting Byron DeLeon to the position of Head Coach of the Saint Viator girls’ varsity soccer team. This past summer, DeLeon was promoted to the position of Head Coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team after serving as the Head Coach of the boys JV soccer team as well as Assistant Coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team.
An expansive remodel of the theater’s lighting system this fall confirms just how much Saint Viator High School and the Viatorians value the fine arts. As the school kicks off its 60-year anniversary year, a look back at a booklet from its 1961 dedication sets the stage. It lists nine objectives articulating the school's mission, including the ninth pillar, which moves beyond faith formation and academic excellence to promote experiences in art, music, and drama.
The Saint Viator Boosters Club is excited to announce that RJ Gamble has been named the Student-Athlete of the Month. Even though RJ is not currently in a sport (Basketball - Winter), they believed so much in what RJ is doing in remembrance of those who died on 9/11, they awarded him this honor. Congratulations, RJ!
Originally printed in Fall 2001 Alumni Update When the World Trade Center was attacked, the grief hit home for one family in Arlington Heights, as well as the entire Saint Viator community. Mary Catherine Lenz Wieman ’76 has been missing since Sept. 11, when a jet struck the south tower where she worked. She is survived by her husband, Marc Wieman, three children, Christopher, 12, Allison, 8, and Mary Julia, 6; her parents, Lionel and Marianne Lenz; and her brother, Lionel Lenz ’75, and Thomas Lenz ’77.
Every month this year, an international student will be showcased for exceeding expectations and excelling at Saint Viator High School. Our first student spotlight of the 2021-22 academic year is Ruiqi "Rickie" Gao '22. Ruiqi has not only thrived in her coursework, but she also continues to excel in the fine arts. Last year, she designed our Lunar New Year mugs, and this year, she is enrolled in multiple art classes, including AP Art, 3D Art Design, and Advanced 3D Art Design. There’s a new choir director at Saint Viator, but he’s no stranger to teaching choral students. Dr. John C. Hughes joined the staff this year, bringing an impressive background that includes leading collegiate and adult choral ensembles as well as teaching.
Due to the current climate, Quest Food Services encourages students to use the cashless option (their school ID). Funds can be added directly to student accounts through MealTime or with a check made payable to “Quest”.
Any incoming freshman that would like to add funds (if not done online) can bring a check to Freshman Orientation on Tuesday, August 17, to have the funds added to their account before the first full day of school. This helps ensure lines stay at a minimum as well as helps avoid cross-contact in the service area.

Saint Viator High School Athletic Director Jason Kuffel announced the school will be promoting Byron DeLeon to the position of Head Coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team. DeLeon has been coaching boys’ soccer for nearly 20 years and has recently served as the Head Coach of the Saint Viator boys JV soccer team as well as Assistant Coach of the boys' varsity soccer team. In 2017, DeLeon led the JV boys’ team to the ESCC conference championship.

Last week, Saint Viator High School had the privilege of hosting our 26th annual Million Dollar Classic. On Monday, June 7 at The Club at Wynstone, more than 120 guests gathered to celebrate Saint Viator student-athletes, coaches, and our 31 sports teams.
Saint Viator High School has been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as a drive-thru COVID vaccination site. IDPH will provide first doses of the Pfizer vaccine to those 12 years of age and older on June 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Registration is required and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We are opening registration to all members of the Saint Viator community before announcing the opportunity to the general public.
Saint Viator’s Fine Arts Department hosted one of our final senior events earlier this week, celebrating the five seniors who plan to pursue the arts in college. Students gathered with parents and faculty on Monday to officially announce their college decisions at the school's inaugural Fine Arts Signing Day.

After a school year disrupted by the pandemic, with sports seasons interrupted or postponed, Saint Viator student-athletes just want to keep playing. That may explain why a record number of student-athletes – 22 – signed letters of intent to play their sport in college.

In honor of Eart Day, several conscientious students enhanced our campus by planting perennial flowers and greens in beautiful new red pots provided as a courtesy by Walmart Supercenter in Mt. Prospect. Earlier in the day, kids watched a student-made short film about the importance of recycling featuring Saint Viator's refuse carrier, Flood Brothers.

Strength and Conditioning Coach Alex Nadolna worked hard to set up the Murphy Wellness Center before its great reveal on Monday. And why not? The newly renovated facility is more than a weight room for Coach Nadolna. It’s his classroom.
The latest group of Illinois State Scholars was announced this week, and Saint Viator High School seniors were well represented. Out of the 216 members of the senior class, 49 were named Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission for their outstanding academic achievement.

Saint Viator High School mourns the death of Patrice Johannes, principal of Saint Viator High School from 1999 through 2003. She was well-loved and respected by the faculty. Patrice died Friday, April 16. Services are pending and will be communicated when available. Please remember Patrice and the Johannes family in your prayers.

Saint Viator High School junior Christopher Rapala recently earned a score of 36 on his ACT exam. Rapala follows current junior Michael Schumacher in achieving this score.

For a number of years, Saint Viator High School has been home to the Reverend Mark R. Francis, CSV International Program. Through this program, we have had the pleasure of welcoming students from across the globe, including many from China, South Korea, Vietnam, and additional countries in Asia.
We have built wonderful relationships with these students and their families and hold them close to us as valuable members of our community. As we have seen first-hand the benefits of students of different cultures learning to work together and form new bonds, it gives us great pain to see the recent and all too frequent attacks on people of Asian descent.
We encourage all members of our society to treat others with respect and welcome into our community people of all nationalities and backgrounds.

This week, we once again pause to pray for those impacted by violence in our country. The recent incidents in Atlanta and Boulder remind us of the value and fragility of every human life.
At Saint Viator High School we cultivate an environment of kindness for all to feel welcomed, included, and involved. We hope that by building a community of faith where all are respected and valued, our students will truly transform the communities they live in as they leave our school.

Congratulations to the 17 juniors who were inducted into Mu Alpha Theta last night. Mu Alpha Theta is the United States mathematics honor society for high school and two-year college students. Members must have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra and/or geometry, and have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics. Members must also have at least a 94 percent math GPA.

Saint Viator High School learned Monday that both students, Olivia Gauthier and Kathleen Hannon, who were recognized as Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, have now been named Finalists.

Last month, students from Saint Viator’s International Program created videos of bilingual read-alouds of popular American picture books. Working with youth librarians from the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, they helped create two bilingual resources: "The Three Little Pigs" in Mandarin Chinese and "Five Little Monkeys" in Spanish.
For the second consecutive year, Saint Viator High School has been recognized with the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. Given annually by the College Board, the award recognizes schools for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles.

As of this week, high school sports are finally back in action. But while they were on pause as the IHSA worked out its return to season plan, basketball fans could still follow alumni of Saint Viator High School playing—and starting in some cases—in the college ranks.
At Tuesday’s Board of Trustee meeting, it was announced that the Viatorian Board of Governors has appointed Fr. Dan Lydon, CSV, to serve as the next President of Saint Viator High School. Fr. Lydon will assume his role July 1, 2021, but will work closely with current President Brian Liedlich in the coming months.

It is with an abundance of joy and Lion pride, that we announce that Dean Deb Scerbicke has been named the recipient of the 2021 Village of Arlington Heights Hearts of Gold Educator of the Year Award.
Each year, since 1999, the Village has recognized members of the community with the Hearts of Gold recognition in 11 different categories such as Business Leader, Volunteer, Mentor, Young at Heart, and others. The Special Events Committee receives dozens of nominations from throughout the community and then spends time evaluating, discussing, and determining the more deserving recipients. We couldn't be more pleased that Dean Deb has been selected to receive this well-earned recognition.

Don’t look now but there seems to be a pipeline developing between Saint Viator’s boys’ and girls’ golf teams and Loyola University, and it’s benefiting both programs.
In November, Cate Reisinger ’21, of Park Ridge, signed a national letter of intent to continue her game with the Maroon & Gold. She is the third Saint Viator golfer in two years to commit to playing in Division I at Loyola -- and she brings some firepower to their lineup.
