Class of '09 Alum Danny O’Shea Named to U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team
Saint Viator High School proudly congratulates alum Danny O'Shea ’09 on being named to the U.S. Olympic figure skating team in the pairs discipline for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.
A native of Gurnee, O’Shea graduated from Saint Viator High School in 2009. His Olympic selection is the culmination of a 14-year competitive career marked by resilience, perseverance, and multiple returns from retirement and injury.
O’Shea currently skates with partner Ellie Kam as the Kam/O’Shea duo. The pair captured the 2024 U.S. National Championship and, in January 2026, earned a silver medal at the U.S. Championships to secure their place on the Olympic team. At the Milan Cortina Games, they will be the oldest U.S. pairs team to compete at the Olympics since 1932.
Members of the Saint Viator community recall O’Shea’s exceptional discipline and work ethic as a student.
“I had him in class,” said Rev. Dan Hall, C.S.V., former social studies teacher. “I just remember hearing how he'd get to the rink at 5 a.m. before class and then leave school early to go back to the rink and train. I guess that's the kind of determination it takes to succeed at that level.”
As Danny O’Shea prepares to represent the United States on the world’s largest athletic stage, Saint Viator High School celebrates his historic achievement and will be rooting for him next month.
