Seniors Find Support and Inspiration at College Essay Workshops
Throughout the month, both before and after school, Saint Viator staff provided valuable feedback on college essay drafts to our seniors. Before they hit “submit,” seniors have the opportunity to discuss their concerns with teachers, faculty, and staff and ask questions about their essays.
Organized by Maggie Bleeker '99, College Counselor, and Shannon Anne, Director of Administrative Services, these sessions offered a great way for seniors to work on their college essay drafts in a supportive, collaborative, and fun environment. Maggie stated, “We are grateful that our faculty and staff were eager to jump in and support our students. The draft party gives the seniors a space to get constructive feedback, polish their essays, and feel confident as they head into application season.” Maggie was happy to work alongside Shannon, who co-created the idea and added “we wanted to provide another personalized opportunity for guidance during a critical stage of the college application process, ensuring every student has the tools and confidence to tell their story effectively.”
Caroline Hartman, a senior with aspirations to study Physical Therapy, came in focused! “I just wanted help on my introduction and conclusion, and really want to get my applications done early! I have finals right around the corner, and this will be one less stressful thing for me to worry about!”
Mrs. Rachel Mroz, Career and Tech educator, remarked how “nice it is to meet students outside of my classroom, and now I have a relationship with a new student.”
The essay collaboration will continue throughout the fall, and all students who attended will be treated to a Pizza Party Celebration in early November.
Students can sign up for the draft parties on September 30 or October 7 here. Be sure to claim your spot before they're all gone. We will let you know which session(s) you get based on availability.
