COVID-19 Closure Update - October 5

October 5, 2020

Dear Saint Viator Families:

It is with profound regret that we must inform you that we are voluntarily halting in-person classes due to a higher than acceptable COVID-19 incident rate within the Saint Viator school community. During the overnight hours, we received notification of additional positive test results and have now reached our threshold for keeping our students and faculty safe.

We are closing in-school learning effective immediately and will switch to eLearning beginning today. We will hold to our block schedule format.

The current plan is to resume classes in 14 days on October 19, but we will monitor the situation and provide updates.

As you know, we experienced measurable success with our eLearning experience during the Spring 2020 semester and anticipate with further experience will maintain our commitment to meeting our academic goals. Students are expected to attend all classes via Zoom during this period.

All extracurricular activities including athletic practices and games are suspended during this time.

To minimize the extent of the school closure, we urge everyone to strictly adhere to the Center for Disease Control and Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines for combating COVID-19 and upon re-opening of the school, only allow your child to return if they are symptom-free. We also ask that you continue to report any student who tests positive for COVID-19 or exhibits symptoms of the virus during this 14-day period to our school nurse Pamela Kelly at pkelly@saintviator.com.

Our founders encountered many obstacles during the formation of the Clerics of Saint Viator but fueled by the Gospel and nourished by the Eucharist, were ignited to express their Catholic, Viatorian faith through study, prayer, and transformative action just as we do today. We will remain undaunted in our mission and ask that your family pray for a quick and safe return for all to our exceptional institution where tradition and innovation meet.

As more information becomes available, we will forward it to you immediately.
