    Keeping up with the Jones’ brothers over the last eight years has not been an easy feat. 

    Zac ’17 came to Saint Viator from Our Lady of Destiny in Des Plaines and Austin ’21 from Saint Emily in Mount Prospect, and throughout their time here, both made their names and faces known to faculty, staff, and classmates by participating in the fine arts, student council, and more. Soon, Austin will graduate, and just like his brother four years ago, will be off to Yale University in the fall.

  • SVHS Mourns the Loss of Former Principal, Patrice Johannes

    Saint Viator High School mourns the death of Patrice Johannes, principal of Saint Viator High School from 1999 through 2003. She was well-loved and respected by the faculty. Patrice died Friday, April 16. Services are pending and will be communicated when available.

  • 55th Annual Saint Viator Musical - "Into the Woods"

    The annual Saint Viator musical, “Into the Woods” comes to life this weekend in a new form. Performances of the school’s 55th musical production will be held in the front parking lot with a limited cast of 15 characters. If you’re familiar with Saint Viator’s musical history, you’d know that this is an incredible feat, and one you won’t want to miss. If you can’t make it to one of the four performances, you can still flip through the show’s playbill online and take a peek at some behind-the-scenes rehearsal photos.   • Class of 1971 Pulls Together to Secure Kidney for Alumnus

    We asked. You answered! In last month’s alumni email newsletter, we shared the story of Gene Dougherty '71 and his need for a kidney. In true Lion spirit, the Class of 1971 gathered together to help. A group of alumni agreed to be tested and found that, miraculously, the wife of Tom Gallagher ‘71 is a match. Thanks to the Saint Viator community, Gene will receive his new kidney in May.

    Saint Viator’s Million Dollar Classic returns for its 26th annual outing in June at the Club at Wynstone. What better way to begin to return to normalcy than to honor the tradition of Saint Viator athletics while building a new vision for the future. The 2021 Million Dollar Classic will raise funds to continue to upgrade our Murphy Wellness Center, providing tangible benefit not only for the members of our 31 sports teams, but every single student through our comprehensive PE curriculum.   • Murphy Wellness Center Renovations Underway

    If you attended Saint Viator or have been involved within the community any time after 2005, it’s likely that you’re familiar with the Murphy Wellness Center in the Boler Center. You might remember the track that wrapped around the various weights and workout equipment or you might remember the turf where Strength Coach Rich McLoughlin '10 had you run sprints. Regardless of whichever iteration of the space you know, you’ll definitely want to see what’s in store for current and future students. Renovations started last month and are wrapping up soon on what will be a state-of-the-art Murphy Wellness Center.     Nominations are now open for the 2021-2022 Distinguished Alumni Awards. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the Alumni Association's highest honor and was created to award alumni of Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary high schools that have accomplished significant and extraordinary achievements in their careers. A committee of alumni, faculty, and community leaders will evaluate the applications and select inductees. Nominate an alumnus today.

  • Class of 1971 Alumnus In Need of a Kidney

    Gene Dougherty '71, a past president of the Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary Alumni Association, former teacher, feeder basketball coach, and Board of Trustee, is currently in need of a kidney. While he waits for one from a deceased donor (average wait time is five years), he finds himself on dialysis three days a week for survival. However, he has a better chance of success with receiving a kidney from a living donor. If you are curious about the process and whether or not you might be a match, please contact the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Team at the University of Chicago Hospital at (773) 702-0620.     From Bulldogs to Lions

    Kathleen Corrigan Lynde ’05 was fresh out of college when her aunt asked her to coach the St. James 6th grade volleyball team. “It was my cousin, Tommy Grundtvig's '16 team because they had no coach,” said Lynde, who currently serves as Saint Viator’s McKenna Marketplace and Development Manager. “I volunteered along with my friend Jenna Fricano '05.” 
     
    “Ryan McMahon ’16 and Patrick Lifka were both on the team and for the next three years, I tried to fake it to make it with my volleyball knowledge, with these crazy junior high boys.” Ultimately, McMahon went to Saint Viator while Lifka went to Hersey. Post-grad, however, they both currently work full-time at SVHS. McMahon works in Campus Ministry and Lifka teaches in the English department. “Now nearly ten years later, their coach (me) and two of my players are all working at Saint Viator,” said Lynde.

  • Martha Hayes '14 Named 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year

    Congratulations to Martha Hayes ’14 on being named 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year at Great Falls High School in Great Falls, South Carolina. Martha is currently in her third year of teaching math at Great Falls, where she also coaches girls cross country and varsity softball. In February 2019, she was also recognized as Chester County School District’s Rock Star Teacher of the Month.

  • Viator House of Hospitality Volunteer Opportunity

    Viator House of Hospitality seeks a live-in volunteer for the summer months. This person would be responsible for the safety of the House participants overnight for three or four nights each week. Volunteers will receive free room and board, a private room and bathroom, and full access to kitchen facilities. This is an ideal position for a college student or young adult looking to make a difference and learn more about our national asylum system.     It is with an abundance of joy and Lion pride, that we announce that Dean Deb Scerbicke has been named the recipient of the 2021 Village of Arlington Heights Hearts of Gold Educator of the Year Award. 

    Each year, since 1999, the Village has recognized members of the community with the Hearts of Gold recognition in 11 different categories such as Business Leader, Volunteer, Mentor, Young at Heart, and others. The Special Events Committee receives dozens of nominations from throughout the community and then spends time evaluating, discussing, and determining the more deserving recipients. We couldn't be more pleased that Dean Deb has been selected to receive this well-earned recognition.

    After Third Golf Recruit, Loyola Values Qualities Brought by Saint Viator Student Athletes

    Don’t look now but there seems to be a pipeline developing between Saint Viator’s boys’ and girls’ golf teams and Loyola University, and it’s benefiting both programs.

    In November, Cate Reisinger ’21, of Park Ridge, signed a national letter of intent to continue her game with the Maroon & Gold. She is the third Saint Viator golfer in two years to commit to playing in Division I at Loyola -- and she brings some firepower to their lineup.
