Saint Viator High School Named Apple School of Distinction

Saint Viator High School is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022–2025, for the fourth time. This latest distinction affirms the school’s success as an innovator, providing a compelling learning environment that engages students, and gives tangible evidence of academic achievement.

The recognition comes as Saint Viator begins its 10th year of its 1:1 iPad program, and 100% of the faculty has earned the distinction of Apple Teacher, completing their iPad badges in the Apple Teacher Learning Center.

Principal Jon Baffico says this latest distinction for Saint Viator High School is reason to celebrate.
“The Apple Distinguished School award is further proof of Saint Viator's commitment to providing an outstanding, evolving and adapting educational experience for our students and their families,” Mr. Baffico said.

Apple Distinguished Schools are recognized as centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking in learning, teaching and the school environment, and have documented results of academic accomplishment.
Saint Viator’s commitment to technology permeates nearly every aspect of the school’s environment.

MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops are used for coding in Mobile Apps, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, and Python classes, while iMacs are available in the Academic Commons in order to provide students access to Apple technology during their free periods.

Even athletics has embraced technology. Real time communication apps compile stats and record game plays in baseball, basketball and football, while the lacrosse team uses a drone during practice and game footage to get a different perspective on plays as well as player strengths.

“At Saint Viator, we aim to develop 21st century skills like critical thinking, citizenship, communication, creativity, collaboration, and a growth mindset in all classes while utilizing Apple technology,” says Ms. Maggie Miskowicz, Instructional Technology Coordinator.

“Our teachers empower students,” she adds, “and try to provide a student-driven learning process where they can demonstrate what they have learned in creative ways.”

A rigorous education has been the hallmark of a Saint Viator education, since its inception more than 60 years ago, but administrators continue to look into the future, as they advance the school’s innovative curriculum redesign, which leverages technology --- with academics.
