Saint Viator Announces Changes in Wrestling Program

Saint Viator Athletic Director Jason Kuffel has announced the hiring of a new team of coaches for the school’s wrestling program. Mike Schneider has been brought in as the new head coach and he has announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches.

Schneider was a two-time state qualifier at Conant High School before wrestling collegiately at Marquette University where he was ranked as high as 13th nationally and was a Greco-Roman All-American in 1997.  He has coached for a number of wrestling programs in Wisconsin and Illinois including the Arlington Cardinals Wrestling Club.

“Mike exemplifies everything we look for in a Saint Viator coaching candidate,” Kuffel said. “He is committed to competition, respect, and excellence. His experience both as a wrestler and as a coach is going to enhance our program immediately.”

Joining Schneider on the staff will be Dan Miller, a former Class 3A Iowa state champion, and Mark Miedona, who has a highly successful 7-year run as the wrestling coach at Lane Tech High School.

“Mark, Dan, and I are thrilled to join the Saint Viator athletic program,” Schneider said. “We will treat everyone in the program the way we would expect to be treated. Teammates will respect and encourage one another, and by working together, improve not only their own skills but those of each other.”

Kuffel said the new regime will get to work immediately to begin building standards for the coming school year.

“I see great things ahead for our wrestling program under Mike’s leadership,” Kuffel said.
