Where Are They Now? Betsy Fons

Director of Campus Ministry, Coordinator of Christian Service from 1998-2015

Favorite Saint Viator/Sacred Heart memory:
So many to choose from! Being in Campus Ministry for 15 years, I went on so many Kairos Retreats and witnessed our students' faith in action! I really enjoyed taking students on yearly Mission Trips. We went to Louisiana and Mississippi with Habitat for Humanity and one year a group of us went to Belize to build a house for teachers at a school in a remote village. I also started the school-wide Christian Service Program so I went on hundreds of local service trips with students and enjoyed each one. School masses were so special when we could all gather and pray together.

Impact teaching at Saint Viator/Sacred Heart had on you:
It solidified my commitment to work in Catholic Education. It also gave me some of my closest friends in fellow faculty members.

What made Saint Viator unique:
The people. The faculty was so close and supportive and the students were wonderful. We really were such a tight-knit community. We had each other's back and supported each student to help them be as successful as possible.

Former colleagues you stay in touch with:
Rosie Conway, Pat Grandziel, Bill Faltinoski, Mary Lou Smith, Rob Robertson, Joanne Francis, Carolyn Gerbatsch, and many former students through Facebook!

Town you currently reside in:
Woodridge, IL

What you are doing now:
In regards to work, I am in an administrative position as the Director of Student Services at St. Isaac Jogues Grade School in Hinsdale. This is my first year at this school. Prior to this, I was the Assistant Principal and School Counselor at Old St. Mary’s Grade School in the South Loop. When I am not working I travel as much as possible and play the Powerball and Mega Millions Lottery each week. (when I win, I will be sure to donate to SVHS)!

Message for former colleagues and students:
It’s true, you really are #ALionForLIfe The SVHS network is strong and far-reaching! For the students - enjoy these HS years! They fly by and you make friends you will have for life! Be kind to each other! To my colleagues - thanks for all of the memories. You were and continue to be such a positive influence on me and my life. I am grateful for my years at SVHS! Keep in touch!
