Jeremiah Pittman '21 Commits to University of Iowa

The University of Iowa’s defensive line just got a lot stronger. Saint Viator High School junior, Jeremiah Pittman, committed Monday to play in Iowa City, choosing the Hawkeyes over offers from more than one dozen other Division 1 schools.

In a tweet on Monday, Pittman thanked his family, coaches, and trainers – including Saint Viator head football coach Dave Archibald – before making his announcement. He went on to explain his decision to Tim O’Halloran, publisher of the high school recruiting site, Edgy Tim.

“The relationship I have with the Iowa coaches is great. They just make me feel like a part of the family already and they truly care about you on and off the field,” Pittman said. “Academically, Iowa also has a lot to offer and it's just a great fit for me.”

In announcing the commitment, Iowa football recruiting described Jeremiah as “an explosive defensive lineman” who will make an impact in the class of 2021.

“Pittman’s videos start with clips of him as a bulldozing short-yardage back/fullback, where he shows off great feet and tremendous power,” reported Black Heart Gold Pants.

Coach Archibald described Jeremiah as a role model for his teammates and a tenacious competitor on the field.

“Jeremiah's commitment to play football at the University of Iowa is simply the result of him having outstanding priorities, being a great and caring teammate, and working very hard both on the field, in the classroom, and in the weight room,” Coach Archibald said. “He is an exceptional athlete, but he never once settled for being a great athlete because he cares more about his potential and about how hard he works.”

Pittman enters his senior season as a four-year starter and his third year as captain. He has started on both offense and defense as a sophomore and junior and plays left tackle on offense and multiple positions on the defensive line.

“He earned a starting spot at center his freshman year and helped us make the playoffs in 2017,” Coach Archibald adds.

In 2019, as a junior, Pittman was named All-Conference for the East Suburban Catholic League and the Chicago Catholic League, and named to the All-Area team for the Daily Herald.  He also made the 5A Academic All-State team.

Pittman chose the Hawkeyes over these major programs: Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Boston College, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Northern Illinois.

“From the time Jeremiah first stepped on the campus at Saint Viator, he has been humbly working, striving, and serving,” Coach Archibald says. “He is a role model of virtue in our community and he is a tenacious competitor on the field.”
