Travel Advisory

Travel Quarantine
For the beginning of the school year, Saint Viator will not sanction any student or cohort trips to states currently on the Illinois Travel Advisory list.

If families choose to travel to states currently on the Illinois Travel Advisory list, no quarantine is required upon return provided that proof of vaccination has been previously submitted to the school nurse and the individuals are asymptomatic.

If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, take the following steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
  • Before you travel:
    • Get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before your trip.
  • While you are traveling:
    • Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and while indoors at U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Travelers are not required to wear a mask in outdoor areas of a conveyance (like on open deck areas of a ferry or the uncovered top deck of a bus). CDC recommends that travelers who are not fully vaccinated continue to wear a mask and maintain physical distance when traveling.
    • Avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet/2 meters (about 2 arm lengths) from anyone who is not traveling with you.
    • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol).
  • After you travel:
      • Get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.
        • Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
        • If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
      • If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.

For those who choose to travel internationally, the CDC will require all air passengers entering the U.S. to present a negative COVID test, taken within 3 calendar days of departure, or proof of recovery from the virus in the last 90 days.

States in Orange are on the Travel Advisory/Ban List.

All travel should be communicated to Mrs. Kelly in order to ensure the health and safety of the entire Saint Viator community.

The following processes are utilized by the school nurse and school administration when conducting contract tracing among students, staff, or faculty.

Indoor Classroom Decision Tree

Non-Classroom Setting Decision Tree

Close Contact Definition

Close Contact through proximity and duration of exposure: Someone who was less than 6 feet away from an infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinical diagnosis) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period (for example, three individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes). An infected person can spread SARS-CoV-2 starting from 2 days before they have any symptoms (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days before the positive specimen collection date) until they meet the criteria for ending isolation.

Exception: In the K-12 indoor classroom setting or a structured outdoor setting where mask use can be observed (i.e., holding class outdoors with educator supervision), the close contact definition excludes students who were between 3 to 6 feet of an infected student (laboratory-confirmed or a clinical diagnosis) if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time.

This exception does not apply to teachers, staff, or other adults in the indoor classroom setting.

Saint Viator Positivity Rate

  • The Saint Viator positivity rate is calculated by identifying the positivity rate for each of the zip codes in which faculty, staff, and students reside. Those rates are weighted according to the number of faculty, staff, and students in each zip code. The weighted average is then calculated into a 7-day rolling average specific to our school community.
