Class of 2024 Senior Awards

This past Friday, the Saint Viator community gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Saint Viator Class of 2024 students. They have thrived in the classroom, in faith and service, in athletics and the arts, and as a community. Collectively, we recognize their capacity for critical thinking, leadership, commitment to service, thirst for knowledge, and the manner in which they have upheld the tradition of Saint Viator High School.

Full Tuition Recognition
The following three seniors have been awarded full scholarships to college that include tuition, room and board, as well as stipends and opportunities to study abroad. These scholarships are a testament to their hard work and potential, and we have no doubt that they will make the most of this incredible opportunity. 
 
  • Mia Bergstrom - Mia has been awarded a Division 1 Basketball scholarship and Ignatian Scholarship from Saint Louis University.
  • PJ McLeod - PJ has been named a Witt Fellow through the Honors College at the University of Alabama. He is one of 23 students awarded this scholarship in the entering class of over 3,000.
  • Michael O’Connor - Michael has been named a Forty Acres & Stamps Scholar at the University of Texas. He is one of 18 students awarded this scholarship in the entering class of over 9,000.

Seal of Biliteracy 
Being able to speak another language opens the doors for greater communication and acceptance amongst diverse people, and at Saint Viator, we want to celebrate students that create that sense of belonging with their ability to speak multiple languages. Additionally, students recognized for their advanced language skills can provide these achievements during the college admission process and to potential employers.

The Heart of the Class Award
The Heart of the Class Award is an opportunity to honor those students who lived out the Saint Viator spirit in the classroom on a daily basis. Determined by overall faculty vote, this award is given to students who have made outstanding positive contributions to the classroom atmosphere independent of their course grade. These students have been enthusiastic, cheerful, engaged, positive, inquisitive, and hard-working all day, every day, and they made every classroom they entered an enjoyable and fulfilling place for students and teachers alike.

East Suburban Catholic Conference Scholar – Athlete Awards
Each school in the East Suburban Catholic Conference recognizes ten scholar-athletes for the Scholar-Athlete award. These 20 students are the highest-ranking athletes by cumulative grade point average after seven semesters. To qualify, they must participate in their sport their senior year.

The Frank M. Covey, Jr. Award for Meritorious Service to Saint Viator High School  
Frank M. Covey, Jr. was the first President of the Saint Viator High School Board of Trustees. To honor him, the Frank M. Covey Jr. Award for Meritorious Service to Saint Viator High School was established. We honor students who have maintained a satisfactory grade point average, have participated in co-curricular activities, and at the same time, have consistently demonstrated a willingness to volunteer time and energy to be of service to the whole school.

The Andrew Johnstone Leadership Award Finalists
In honor of Andrew Johnstone ’92, this award is presented by the Administration and Student Council of Saint Viator High School to a person who exhibits the qualities of leadership in school spirit, student government, athletics, academics, community and friendship, student activities and involvement.

The Christopher Erdmann Award Finalists
This award has been instituted in honor of Christopher Erdmann, a senior of the class of 1968 who died of leukemia in the fall of that year. Subsequently, his parents initiated the Christopher Cup. This award is presented to an individual who not only is an excellent student, but one who is involved in both co-curricular activities and the community as well – the senior who best exemplifies the living spirit and mission, vision and values of Saint Viator High School.
