Co-Curricular // Clubs & Activities / Chorus

Saint Viator offers a variety of options for students who want to explore singing. Concert Choir and Music Ministry are offered for credit; Chamber Singers is a co-curricular program that enhances students’ studies.

Concert Choir - This course, which has previously met during zero hour, will meet during the school day. Concert Choir stresses the fundamentals of vocal technique, sight-singing and performance skills through the study and performance of music from various genres and traditions. The choir will perform in concerts, local festivals and other community events throughout the year. Participation in performances is required for a passing grade. A tentative schedule of performances is available online in the appendix of the 2011-2012 Curriculum Guide. No audition or previous experience necessary.

Music Ministry - Music Ministry is open to all students – vocalists, as well as instrumentalists (including strings) – who wish to participate in the planning and performing of music at Mass. Students will learn the fundamentals of how music enhances the texts and rituals of the liturgy through a variety of musical traditions, including chant, traditional hymns and contemporary. Participation at Mass is required for a passing grade. Music Ministry meets from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. (Occasionally, meetings must be added due to upcoming events or changed/canceled due to conflicts.)

Chamber Singers: This auditioned group of singers rehearses outside of the school day and performs music of various styles. The Chamber Singers are featured at many events throughout the school year, including the Choral Showcase in the spring. They also perform throughout the community, including Christmas caroling during the holiday season. Students auditioning for Chamber Singers are also encouraged to participate in one of the other vocal ensembles (Concert Choir and Music Ministry) as well to strengthen vocal technique and musicianship skills.
