Meet 2015's Night of the Lion honoree:
Principal Eileen Manno
Eileen Manno has been an important and integral part of the Saint Viator community for over thirty years as a teacher, counselor, and currently as principal. Her dedication and passion for Catholic education is a priceless asset to the school and its students. When asked to describe Eileen, time and time again, students, parents, faculty, and staff say she is a mentor, confidant, and friend.
Eileen began leaving her indelible mark on the community while serving as counselor. In a letter to Fr. Charles Bolser, C.S.V., then president of Saint Viator, a parent summarized what makes Eileen so special, “Mrs. Manno is truly professional and has a deep commitment to helping not only our daughter but all students. She has been a truly wonderful role model and her Christian attitudes and actions have been inspirational to us.” She shows a caring compassion to anyone who seeks her advice and guidance. Her concern is for the academic future of the students, while taking a holistic approach to education. It is important to be focused on educating the whole student, including their spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional needs.
Under Eileen’s guidance, Saint Viator remains an academically progressive school. She challenges the faculty to keep up with the latest trends in education and look for new ways to improve and revolutionize their teaching methods. According to Patrick Mahoney, former administrator and current director of development, “She is as forward thinking as any of the iconic Viatorian principals in Saint Viator’s history.” She holds everyone—students and faculty alike—accountable and responsible for their actions, including advancing the academic excellence for which Saint Viator is known. Under her leadership, Saint Viator was named a 2008 and 2014 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Although as far as she was concerned, Saint Viator has always been a Blue Ribbon School.
