Students setup for Mass
Campus Ministry Homepage
One of the most active departments in Saint Viator is its Campus Ministry office, conveniently located in the same corridor as the cafeteria, and staffed by three fulltime faculty members.

Its purpose is to support the ongoing process of Christian formation in Saint Viator students, by providing a comprehensive program, which incorporates religious beliefs and values into everyday student life.

Students participate in Campus Ministry through regular opportunities to attend Mass, off-campus retreats, completing their 25 hours per year of Christian service, and participating in a variety of service opportunities, both in school and in the wider Chicago community.

Campus Ministry also sponsors regular trips. Over the years, students have built Habitat for Humanity homes in Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Delta.

Campus Ministers organize one of the first group events that incoming students encounter when they enter: the Freshman Class Family Mass. This welcomes them and their families to the wider Saint Viator community.

It kicks off a year filled with faith formation in classes, and an experienced-based Campus Ministry program dedicated to active participation in the Catholic Church and the Viatorian mission of social justice.

  • More than 150 students train to lead retreats that draw more than 700 classmates per year.
  • Students complete their Christian service hours by volunteering with more than 350 agencies.
  • Monthly all-school Masses draw more than 150 students throughout the year to participate as lectors, cantors, musicians, Eucharistic Ministers and acolytes.
  • School-wide service projects include the annual Season of Sharing campaign, which provides Christmas gifts to more than 300 clients of the Howard Area Community Center in Chicago.
